Step 2: Purchase Materials

Music Makers at the Keyboard Program

Our program is designed to set students on a satisfying trajectory into lifelong musicianship. Musikgarten Instructors equip students with skills in music literacy, keyboard facility, performance etiquette, heightened aural skills, critical thinking skills, and much more.

Group lessons are held over the Zoom Meetings group platform using the internationally renowned Music Makers at the Keyboard Program by Musikgarten.

Materials Needed

  • You'll need a piano in your home, preferrably with 88 weighted keys.
  • You'll need a device for connecting into Zoom Meetings with audio and video. A well-lit area next to your piano with your device set up and ready to go prior to class time is essential.
  • Books & CDs! In addition to your monthly membership, one materials purchase of $65 + shipping for the book, two CDS with digital download code, and parent book is necessary to begin lessons. Additional sibling books are $25.00 each. Each time your child advances through one book, a new book will be needed to continue studying.

Practice

Students who practice 20 minutes each day will begin to excel. Daily practice consists of listening to the CDs or digital downloads, playing notation card games, singing solfege, tapping rhythm patterns, and playing pieces on the piano.

Students will progress through our class levels at their own pace in conjuction with the teacher's approval upon demonstrating understanding of the pieces taught in class .

Parent Involvement

Your involvement is essential in your child's success. Your role is to be present with your child during class and help with practicing assignments throughout the week. Your presence in class not only gives your child the human touch needed to embrace the piano learning curve with confidence, it also gives you the know-how to help your child practice.

As your child's guide at home, you will be the one to show your child which assignments are given by the teacher each week. Most importantly, you will provide nurture and encouragement to practice every day. The more creative you are with rewards for practicing, the more fun it will be for your child!

What time is class?

The introductory level 1A will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 AM Eastern Time starting May 5, 2020. While attendance is crucial to a student's progress, if you are not available to attend class on a certain day, you can catch up by viewing the class recording.

What will a class be like?

Musik at Home Piano Lessons are a whole-body experience for learners of all kinds: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Your child will need to have a shaker and/or drum nearby for all the fun activities. In class, you will experience singing games, rhythm games, and piano games! Each week you'll enjoy learing the "song of the week!" Piano skills will grow as each song is introduced.

How do students advance through levels?

When a student has mastered the material in level 1A, a 15 minute one-on-one assessment will be scheduled with the instructor for $15.

Why group lessons?

Group lessons allow students to experience a dynamic learning environment. The Music Makers at the Keyboard Material is designed to be taught in a group setting. Students learn from each other and will enjoy the chance to hear one another's progress. Online group lessons enable Musik at Home to offer lessons at over 60% off the cost of in-person group lessons. Most in-person piano lessons cost between $100-$200 per student per month for an hour of instruction.

Will I need to sign a contract?

No. You may cancel at anytime. However, in order to get the full benefits of the program, we encourage you to stick with it through all 6 books! We can't wait to help you succeed!
